We believe the best correction for a dog or puppy is a leash and collar. Not a spanking, squirt bottles, newspaper or any other form, just a leash and a collar. When trying to fixing behavior it’s important to know two things one the neck in the canine is the strongest muscle in their body and two consistency. When trying to learn how to give a correction keep in mind each canine personality is different and depending on that personality determines what size correction is needed. Practice things before they happen, for instance if your dog is playbiting, attach the leash to the collar and try to get them to bite then deliver a correction which is a pull and release with the word NO at the same time. So offer your hand for a bite and when they do, deliver the correction saying the word No then praise when they stop but be ready for another bite and then another correction, this done consistently over a 30 to 45 day period will stop the playbiting. This works the same for jumping, counter surfing or any other behavior you are trying to fix. The key is to practice things over and over before they happen. Another key is to always have a means of correction or you might miss them.
